![]() ![]() With both Dick Grayson and the loyal Alfred Pennyworth endorsing Tim for the job, Batman overcame his doubts and agreed to train Tim to serve as the new Robin. The 1989 storyline "A Lonely Place of Dying" introduced an origin for a young Tim Drake, a bright adolescent who's deduced Batman's secret identity and, after aiding Batman in a fight against Two-Face, is bold enough to present a case for the Robin tradition to continue. But, more importantly, the unique story of Jason Todd had already been co-opted on the show by the very next Robin, Tim Drake.Īlthough the move enabled Batman to return to his comics origins as a dark loner in time for his 50th anniversary and the release of Tim Burton's Batman, DC seemed to have second thoughts. For one thing, the brutal end of Jason's career (or what we thought was the end at the time) pretty much eliminated any chance of Jason's story appearing in the more family-friendly world of the DCAU. As Paul Dini said in the initial promo, the series is addressing an area of Batman continuity fans doubted this canon would ever touch. But there's even bigger shock in the announcement.
